Novelist’s latest work is a page-turning, high stakes English Sixties thriller

Ruinous risk-taking, gang violence and police corruption are just some of the key elements in David Woods’ engrossing Pen Press book, Drink With The Devil.

A fast-moving thriller set in England’s prosperous rural south, Drink With The Devil is a tumultuous, visceral account of business intrigue and personal vitriol.

During an engrossing era of British corruption and scandal, Woods makes a pertinent nod to another, equally prominent Sixties’ ethos: love. He illustrates how deceit and doubt can’t destroy the positive warmth and loving trust between central characters Jim and Angela. However, the paranoia of Angela’s brother, Garry, casts a dark shadow. Having blamed Jim for his parents’ violent murder, Garry’s vicious sibling rivalry with his secret, long-lost brother fuels a Machiavellian pursuit for revenge.

This explosive plot twist fires Woods’ thrilling, driven narrative. As the Sixties unfold, Jim is forced to overcome incredible odds as Garry’s obsession with ruining his life intensifies. A rollercoaster of physical trauma and emotional drama, Drink With The Devil also provides an acutely disturbing insight to psychological turmoil. Through the author’s chilling portrayal of desperation, the novel’s title is drawn from family businessman Garry’s alcoholic dependence and the violent, nightmare-like visions it induces.

In a plot fraught with breathless suspense, graphic danger and tension, Drink With The Devil ultimately illustrates how courage and determination can triumph over high suspicion and deep obsession.

David Woods has been running different businesses for several years. He has recently started a small activity restoring old motorcycle and car instruments. Drink with the Devil is his second published novel.
